Simsbury: The only bicycle-friendly community in CT.

Part of an elite group of 179 cities and towns throughout the United States.

In 2010, the town of Simsbury was designated as the first Bicycle-Friendly Community (BFC) in Southern New England by the League of American Bicyclists. Since then, Boston, MA, has joined the ranks, but Simsbury still holds the title as the only BFC in Connecticut, at the Bronze-level.

Simsbury is part of an elite group of only 179 cities and towns throughout the United States that have been named BFCs. Applicants are evaluated annually by a panel of national bicycle experts who examine a community’s commitment to establishing a bicycle culture in five key areas: encouragement, education, engineering, enforcement and evaluation. A group of bicycle advocates and others in town are overseeing efforts to raise Simsbury’s Bronze-level status to Silver-level.
