Simsbury schools step up: Incorporate bike education in gym class.

Second annual Bike/Walk to School Day at Tootin’ Hills Elementary School.

Physical education teachers from elementary schools in Simsbury, CT, attended a train-the-trainer bike education class, sponsored by Bike Walk CT. They are sharing the word with colleagues, so that bicycle safety and etiquette can be incorporated into the forth-grade curriculum at the five elementary schools in town.

For the second year, Tootin' Hills Elementary School in Simsbury will sponsor a Bike/Walk-to- School Day, to celebrate National Bike Month. In 2010, more than 150 students participated in the event and either rode their bicycle or walked to school.

At Henry James Middle School, the student council created posters that encourage 7th and 8th graders to ride their bicycles during May.
